Why is Plan so important to your future career progression?
As the saying goes, if you fail to plan, you're planning to fail. With everything that you are required to do - and that's just in the day job - if you don't have a plan of what is needed to drive your career forward, then more often than not, 6 months go by and you never make good on your intentions. After all, watching and waiting isn't going to help you get to partner. When you only have an odd 30 mins here and there to spend on your career progression, you need to know exactly what to focus on. And that is where your Partner Track Plan comes in.
If your plan is really going to help you succeed, you need to consistently implement it. This means:
- Diarising the actions on your plan
- Implementing a little bit of your Partner Track Plan every day
- Reviewing and adjusting your plan weekly, monthly and quarterly
How to know what to get started on
If you don't know where to start with your plan, take these 4 essential steps:
Take the Partnership Readiness Assessment - and get a report of the areas you need to focus on.
Choose your one big focus - what you will focus on for the next 90 days that will drive your career forward the most.
Find the time to do it - prioritise your development, diarise the time, and start with small, consistent actions.
Review your progress every month - review what you have learnt with your coach and decide on what you need to focus on next.
